While I can appreciate the sense in not sending anything into such horrible weather conditions, there was a time when trains were considered an all weather mode of transport. The DLW kept their commuter zone open in a 1947 blizzard that dropped 26 inches on Jersey. You'd think with all the heavy equipment they have available now, a resourceful railroad would be able to keep some semblance of service in place, even in such an unusual event. CNW used to have a sign in their offices and yards: "winter is no excuse."
